The Secrets of Good Old Orange Juice

The word breakfast brings to mind an image consisting of an elaborate spread of eggs, bacon, freshly buttered warm toast, fruits, maybe different types of cereal and of course, the quintessential glass of orange juice. Whether it is a super healthy breakfast or a decadent one loaded with calories, orange juice fits right in with all of them.

There are many advantages to consuming fresh orange juice, and as a matter of fact, most juiced fruits and vegetables are extremely good for you. Click here to see the benefits of other juices. Oranges are tangy and sweet and very tasty indeed. Underneath the yummy goodness lies more nutritional goodness.

Oranges have a very high content of vitamin C, an essential nutrient. While having too much of most other vitamins can cause negative effects, excess vitamin C does not cause any trouble and the body simply flushes it away. On the other hand, too little vitamin C can cause various problems like scurvy. (more...)

Juicing

If you are new to juicing, you may tend to stick to the more tried and tested recipes, but there are many sources of information available in books and on the internet where you can find help and more information plus some tasty recipes.

At first you may stick to one or two types of juice, such as apples or carrots, but once you have been using it for a little while and have got the trick of what to do, you can start adding to your juicing repertoire and coming up with a little more unusual ingredients.

I like to add in different things just to experiment and sometimes I come out with some real winners whereas other times it has had to go straight in the bin which is a real shame and a real waste. (more...)

A Healthy Start

If you want my advice, there is nothing better to start the day than freshly made juice, and although many people have the perception that it can take a long time every day, it actually only takes a few minutes from start to finish.

There are two main ways of juicing, vegetable juicing and citrus fruits. Citrus fruits are probably the easiest type to juice and you just have to cut them in half and press down on the juicer, but they can work out expensive. Oranges and grapefruit work best to my mind.

Vegetable juicing can take a little longer but the trick is to buy a juicer that can take large widths of fruit, so that you do not have to chop them up into such little bits. You just cut them up a little smaller, let's say an apple into two or four pieces depending on the juicer, and push them into the juicer, no need to core or peel. (more...)
